Introduction
The discipline of History of Education is one of the earliest disciplines established in domestic comprehensive universities. The academic discipline of History of Education at ZJU was authorized to recruit master students in 1978, and was legitimate to grant master degree in 1981. It was approved as a doctoral degree granting unit in 1986, and set up a postdoctoral research station in 1998. In 1999, it was selected as the Key Discipline for Sustainable Development in Zhejiang Province; In 2000, it was approved as the Key Discipline for Sustainable Development of 211 Project and 985 Project of Zhejiang University. It also successfully applied for and was approved as a National Key Discipline in 2008. There are eight teachers in the team of this discipline, including two senior professors in liberal arts of Zhejiang University, one Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education, one special expert of Zhejiang Province, one from the track of the New Century Talent Plan of the Ministry of Education, one from the track of the Plan of 151-Second-level Talent of Zhejiang Province, one Qiushi Young Scholar of Zhejiang University and two researchers of the 100 talents plan of liberal arts of Zhejiang University.
For 40 years, education discipline has achieved fruitful research results, in the education research, xinhua digest, Chinese social science abstract publications on high level at home and abroad, such as more than 200 papers, published more than 30 works and the host country and the province departmental level topic more than 20 items, research achievements was awarded national and provincial-level incentives nearly 20 items.
This discipline offers research directions such as the History of Chinese Educational Modernization, the History of Educational Exchanges between China and Foreign Countries, Studies in the Imperial Examination System, the History of Higher Education, the History of Chinese Educational Finance and the History of Foreign Modern Education. It is committed to cultivating high-level academic research talents who master the latest trends and research outcomes in the development of educational history at home and abroad, who obtain broad and profound basic theoretical knowledge of educational history, who develop the ability to use educational history research methods for academic research, and who have the ability to conduct educational history research independently.
